Prince Albert slipper for Ernest Journal

Here are the final illustrations for Ernest Journal's Timeless style section. This is on the history of the Prince Albert slipper. The slipper was at one time used as the chosen shoe for the Sultan's Harem, these women were often slaves made to ware them as it was too hard to run away in. The Pope also wares red slippers indoors as a symbol of Christ's crucifixion.

Making some new work for Ernest Journal's history of men's style column. This time they're about the Prince Albert Slipper.

Here are the prints, it came out a bit messy but because of time constraints I'll photoshop that out, as well as putting them into linocut circles that were printed previously.

Victor Hugo for New philosopher Mag

Final illustrations for New Philosopher magazine. A mag with really interesting articles and very cleverly written! Makes you think about things from a whole new perspective. Here I made one with shading and one without, I can't decide which one I like more.

After developing some new work, I now have to tackle the actual linocutting, this is the part I enjoy the most, although I have to say the amount is a little daunting.

Neo:print Prize

Today I found myself in Bolton for the Neo:print prize exhibition private view. 

I have to say I'm absolutely stoked to be a part of this exhibition, it's the freshest, punchiest print show I've seen in ages and the standard is amazing! Of course I expected nothing less when you have judges from the V&A, Royal collage of art, Printmaking today and Pace Prints New York reps personally selecting the show. 

It was also really nice meeting neo:studio directors: Jason Simpson and Julie Levy, it was lovely briefly chatting to them at the show.
The show runs from the 25th Aug - 30th Oct at neo:gallery 23 The Market Place Shopping centre Bolton. Being on the second floor of a shopping centre it's not where you'd expect but what an amazing space!

Pre-selected for the Mall Gallery

Thanks to the Mall Gallery for pre-selecting my Nightwalking piece for their Society of Wildlife Artist open exhibition. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Neoprint prize!

Many Thanks to the Neoprint prize and their judges for selecting my print for the exhibition in Bolton! The exhibition runs from the 25th August to the 30th October 2016. Private view will take place on Saturday 27th from 2-4pm and awards ceremony commencing at 2.30

It promises to be an interesting exhibition!

Sending my frame

The frame shed in Beckenham have done a lovely job framing my print for the second selection Neoprint prize in Bolton. Dropping it off with the courier today.

The Horniman Museum

Here's a few test prints from my Horniman museum lino. I'm experimenting with the tone layer and I might try adding a third to add a bit more shadow. Not sure about the type, the serif font taken from the front of the building may have been a little over ambitious for the size of the typography. Serif fonts definitely require a steady hand. Colour experiments to come...

London Print Studio Summer Show

Very pleased my Peregrine print has been included in the London Print Studio Members Summer Show.

Opening party:- Thursday June 23rd 6.30pm - 8.30pm, Exhibition runs  24th June  - 26th August 2016.

56 artists are showing work in the exhibition, which was selected by Steve Mumberson, Reader in Fine Art at Middlesex University.

Free Admission:- Tuesday to Saturday 10.30 - 5.30

Sense of place

A series of relief prints based on my trips to Guilin China, near to my Grandparents old home in the south of China, before they immigrated to Malaysia. 

These prints are designed to provoke the sense of the mystery surrounding this very unique place. It seems like another world, primordial and dreamlike. Mountains jut out of misty rivers like teeth and strange plants defy gravity holding on to them, inches above the glassy water, suspended as if in time. Beneath some of the mountains are hidden pools in dark caves and in them are built strange spires of stone and minerals. 

With these images, I have tried to give you my impression of the place and my journey through, trying to discover some sense of home in the foreign land of my ancestors.
